South County Fire invites voters to several upcoming opportunities to learn about the benefit charge renewal on the August primary ballot, according to a news release. South County Fire is asking voters to consider a 10-year renewal of the benefit charge. The benefit charge was first approved by South County Fire voters in 2020 and reduces the maximum fire levy by a third. This applies to residents of Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace, Brier and nearby unincorporated areas that belong to the Regional Fire Authority. The charge does not affect Edmonds residents.
Tips sought for 2006 cold-case murders of Seattle mom, daughter hiking near Granite Falls
GRANITE FALLS, Wash. — The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office is asking for tips to help solve a cold-case double homicide that occurred 18 years ago. On July 11, 2006, a mother and daughter were hiking on Pinnacle Lake Trail east of Granite Falls and Verlot. They left their Seattle home early in the morning and were found shot dead on the trail later that day, according to the SCSO.

Arts Commission awards scholarship to MTHS grad Natalie Streuli
Natalie Streuli, a Mountlake Terrace High School graduate, was selected for the Manu Sood Scholarship by the Arts Advisory Commission, according to a news release. The annual $1,000 scholarship program was created in memory of Manu Sood and her commitment to the Mountlake Terrace community, including serving on the arts commission. The first scholarship was awarded in 2010.

I’m now offering Creative Writing Lab as a ZOOM class that includes unique in-class writing and reading of pieces as well as creativity stimulating hints and tricks. Teen survives river drowning
MONROE — A teenager drowned Tuesday, July 9 in the Skykomish River by Al Borlin Park but survived, according to Snohomish Regional Fire and Rescue. The female teen received CPR from a bystander while fire crews were coming, and this was crucial for how she survived the drowning, her father said.
