Art Beat: Art Walk and Sketcherfest, ARTSplash, pub crawl, Cascadia Writers — and hop on the STRUM Party Bus
If you’ve never been to Art Walk Edmonds, this is the month to take the plunge. Edmonds Sketchers and Shoreline Watercolor and Sketching are teaming up to fill downtown Edmonds with sketch artists during the Art Walk this Thursday, July 18, from 5-8 p.m. Edmonds plays host this weekend to artists from around the world for Sketcher Fest 2024. Many of those visiting artists will be out and about capturing the evening with their sketches. Most will be in locations along 5th Avenue, including Cafe Louvre, the Hazel Miller Plaza and Main Street. Among the many businesses welcoming artists are Camp Vintage and Graphite (which will also have live music). If you are an artist, bring your art supplies and join the sketchers.

WA man faces hate crime charges after knife attack in Edmonds
EDMONDS, Wash. - A 47-year-old man has been charged with hate crime assault in connection to a knife attack at an Ezell's Famous Chicken in Edmonds. Snohomish County prosecutors have charged 47-year-old Marcus Damion Anderson with second-degree assault, two counts of third-degree assault, and a hate crime offense in connection to the attack, which happened June 14.

Greenbank man runs for Congress
A Greenbank resident is challenging U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen for Washington state’s 2nd Congressional District seat. Leif Johnson, a Republican originally from Illinois, moved with his family from Texas to Greenbank about 14 years ago, where he particularly enjoys Whidbey’s climate. He works as an engineer for Genie, a company that produces industrial lifts, running the tooling department. He also runs a small tool shop and a chicken feeder business in Greenbank.

Chinook Little League falls to Redmond West, takes third in state
Having already claimed a district championship, the Chinook Little League All-Stars won two, lost two and placed third in the state tournament. State tourney games were staged July 6-13 at the Heritage Park Recreation Center on South Hill. The double-elimination “intermediate” tournament (for players 13 and 14 years old) brought together the Evergreen State’s 10 district champions.
