TULSA, Okla. — A new exhibit has moved in at the Woody Guthrie Center: 'My Eye to a Lens: Music Photography of David Gahr.

“Every exhibit that we have here at the Woody Guthrie Center, we try to fit into the vein of Woody Guthrie,” said Sam Flowers with the museum.

Flowers said this exhibit has special ties to Woody and even other Oklahoma artists.

“He was handpicked by Bo Ash of Bo Ash Records and recording and folk wave, which is Woody Guthrie's record label, to be the photographer of basically the folk revival,” Flowers said.

Flowers explains Gahr photographed Woody, Bob Dylan and Leon Russell.

Now, you can see those portraits for yourself.

“We always expect to inspire here at the Woody Guthrie Center, to show you creativity, to show you history of Woody's important role in Oklahoma history, Woody's important role in American history,” Flowers said.

Flowers said the museum has an increase in tourism and they’re doing more events and exhibits to accommodate that.

“It's been a significant increase, folks are making the pilgrimage here to see Woody and Bob on the same block,” Flowers said.

A lot more kids come through the museum now, Flowers said.

“We’re very proud for our education program to have doubled its number from the last year, and even two years ago, we're over 7,000 kids this school year,” Flowers said. "Our main goal is to expose the youth to the life and legacy of Woody Guthrie."

Flowers said he hopes the new exhibit will give people a new look at the history of Woody Guthrie and the history of folk music. You can see it through December.
