TULSA, Okla. ( WIAT ) — Samford golfer Gabi Nicastro is slated to play in the 124th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship this week.

The reigning Southern Conference Freshman of the Year qualified for the event by claiming the 92nd Alabama Women’s State Amateur Championship in June. Nicastro will compete against over 150 golfers from 30 states and 17 countries at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The championship is from Monday through Aug. 11. Stroke play starts Monday, with Nicastro’s round teeing off around 2 p.m. on the 10th tee. Match play will commence Wednesday.

The Huntsville native led the Bulldogs with a 72.69 stroke average — good for second best in the conference — in the 2023-24 campaign. Nicastro was the individual winner of the Hoover Invitational and ASU Spring Classic. She helped Samford to second place at the Southern Conference championship in April.

Nicastro competed in the NCAA Auburn regional in May and finished tied for 25th place.
