Nine people from across North Mississippi have spent their summer learning new dance moves and are ready to show them off, all while raising money for their local Boys & Girls Clubs.

The 19th Dance Like the Stars Event is at 6:30 p.m. this Saturday at the Cadence Bank arena in Tupelo.

Music will be provided by the North Mississippi Jazz Band.

The event was first started in 2006 and nearly 170 community volunteers from Lee, Lafayette, Tippah, Chickasaw and Union counties have participated.

Representing Oxford is William Teer. Teer has been active with the Boys and Girls Club through the Bonners Leaders Program at the University of Mississippi where he is the assistant director of community engagement.

Volunteer dancers agree to learn a professional ballroom dance routine with a professional partner from Tupelo’s The Dance Studio, but more importantly, they agree to raise funding for BGCNMS.

The dancer raising the most money is named the event’s Grand Champion. Click here to donate and vote for Teer.

Other dancers are Robert Bass, Michael Holloway, Georgia Kate Conner, Anthony Knight, Candace Hunt, Tiffany Phillips, Denise Benjamin Meek and Katie Scott Haywood.

General admission tickets are available for $20. Dinner and admission tickets are $50.
