Decisions, Decisions: Bama targets set to announce commitments this week
By Joseph Hastings,

Alabama heads into the month of July with arguably the most momentum on the recruiting trail in the Class of 2025.
Last month, the Tide added 10 commitments to their class, doubling the previous total number of verbal pledges. They started things off strong by flipping former SMU quarterback commit Keelon Russell on June 4. Kalen DeBoer ‘s staff closed the month on a high note with a commitment from five-star defensive back Dijon Lee .
Now, with the first week of July upon us, a handful of prospects are slated to announce their college commitments. BamaOnLine takes a look at the upcoming decision dates for recruits set to commit in the coming days.
Alabama in final four for Top 100 TE
If he sticks with his previous plans, then Center Valley, Pennsylvania, tight end Andrew Olesh will announce his commitment on Monday, July 1 .
Olesh is down to a final four of Alabama, Florida, Michigan, and Penn State. All four of these schools received official visits from him last month. The Tide hosted him for a visit the first weekend of the month from May 31 – June 2, while Michigan got the last official (June 21-23).
Bama offered Olesh on February 27, and got him on campus a month later for a spring practice. Olesh is listed by On3 as the No. 78 overall player in his class, the No. 3 tight end, and the fourth-ranked player in Pennsylvania.
** Note: There is a chance that Olesh postpones to a later date. It remains to be seen what he will do.
Coveted TE is down to a half-dozen schools ahead of decision
With Lee in the fold, Alabama now holds commitments from five prospects out of California. Another recruit from The Golden State is gearing up to commit soon in Kaleb Edwards .
Over the past couple of months, the El Dorado Hills, California, product took official visits to all six of his finalists: Alabama, Auburn, Oregon, Texas, UCLA, and Washington. He will announce his college decision on Tuesday, July 2 .

Edwards officially visited The Capstone for a mid-week visit starting on June 17. He previously made his way out to Tuscaloosa on April 13 for A-Day, which led to his Bama offer. There was already familiarity with the staff before, however, as Edwards was offered by Washington in January 2023, marking his third offer to that point.
“I love it there,” Edwards recently told On3’s Eric Nahlin of Alabama. “Had a super good connection with Coach [ Nick] Sheridan when he was at Washington, and then now Coach [ Bryan] Ellis at Alabama has just carried over. I had visited Washington twice with that [Kalen DeBoer] staff. They had two tight ends get drafted and I think they combined for 1200 snaps or something crazy like that. A lot of 12 and 11 [personnel].”
Out-of-state defensive lineman locks in commitment date
Another June official visitor who will commit on Tuesday, July 2 , is Kentucky-based defensive lineman Javeon Campbell .
Campbell, who is being recruited by Alabama for the ‘Bandit’ position, first made his way out to campus on March 23. An offer from the program followed less than a week later. Shortly thereafter, Campbell included the Tide in his top nine and scheduled an official visit to T-Town for June 14-16.
Along with officially visiting Alabama last month, Campbell took officials to Miami (May 31), Kentucky (June 7), and Auburn (June 10). The Wildcats are heavily in play for the in-state prospect.
Per the 2025 On300, Campbell is the No. 12 defensive lineman in the nation and the top-ranked recruit in the state of Kentucky.
Alabama battling the home-state Buckeyes for elite Ohio recruit
Unlike the other players mentioned in this article, Justin Hill stepped foot on Alabama’s campus multiple times prior to Kalen DeBoer ‘s arrival as head coach. The Cincinnati, Ohio, Winton Woods HS recruit visited the school twice last year. Once for a summer camp, and the other for the Texas game in September.
Less than three weeks after DeBoer was hired, the Crimson Tide re-offered Hill, who is a ‘Wolf’ target for Bama. Hill ended up visiting Alabama for their spring game in April before returning for his official visit the weekend of June 14-16.

Hill will commit on Wednesday, July 3 . He’s down to Alabama, Oregon, USC, and the in-state Ohio State Buckeyes. Most view this as a battle between Bama and Ohio State for the 6-foot-3, 220-pound EDGE prospect.
Per On3, Hill is the No. 52 overall recruit in the country. He’s also the No. 7 EDGE in his class, as well as the second-ranked player in Ohio.
Last week, Alabama landed their first ‘Wolf’ commitment of the 2025 class in Dawson Merritt .
Staying in the Midwest, Indiana-based recruit Damien Shanklin is set to announce his commitment this week. Shanklin was previously planning on committing on Aug. 29, but has moved it up to Friday, July 5 .
Like Campbell, Shanklin is being recruited for the ‘Bandit’ position. He was a spring evaluation period offer as Alabama dipped into his recruitment on April 26. That later led to a May 3 visit, followed by an official visit to The Capstone two weekends ago.
“The culture and staff,” Shanklin said of what stood out about Alabama. “I can see myself being there.”
Shanklin will choose from a top three of Alabama, LSU, and Ohio State. On3 tabs him as the No. 116 overall recruit in the country, the No. 11 EDGE, and the No. 3 prospect out of Indiana.
