Lotzeir Brooks , Top 100 wide receiver from Millville High School in New Jersey, has kept a relatively low profile throughout much of his recruitment. He’s only attended one college camp during the last two summers, Alabama in ’23.  He committed to Alabama in April, took an official visit, and has focused on his team since early June.

Brooks joined the first group of summer official visitors in Tuscaloosa (May 31-June 2). It was the first his mom and sisters had an opportunity to visit the Capstone.

“They loved it,” Brooks said.  “It was a really big visit for them.”

It was also a significant visit for Brooks, the first ’25 offensive commitment for Coach Kalen DeBoer .

“The official visit was great,” he said. “It was mind-blowing. They really went all-out for us especially with all the love they showed us. The communication they have with my family and I really makes it feel like home there.

“The best part of the visit was just being with the players, and all the food. Germie Bernard was my host.  He was telling me how everything is there. Everyone I met was cool.”

Alabama Recruiting Nuggets: Intel on coveted recruits set to commit soon

Brooks hasn’t taken many recruiting visits outside of Alabama. He earned an offer from Alabama last summer after running a sub 4.4 (40-yard dash). The new staff in Tuscaloosa re-affirmed the offer, and Brooks returned for an unofficial visit in early April. He credits the early decision due to the connection with the UA coaches.

“The relationship with Coach Shep (Alabama WRs coach JaMarcus Shephard ) has been really good,” he said. “He’s like an uncle to me. Coach DeBoer talked about how excited they are about me coming there. I really like how I can talk to him about anything; life, football and everything else.

“What I like about Alabama is how they do everything at the highest level. Whether it’s training, strength or anything else. It’s the highest level with anything they have there.”

    Others still in pursuit

Brooks noted other schools have been actively in pursuit including Maryland, Penn State and Syracuse. He helped his high school team win the University of Maryland 7-on-7 tournament. The Terrapins have pushed for an official visit. Brooks said he is “locked-in” with Alabama, with no plans to visit elsewhere.

“I know Alabama will get me to where I am supposed to be,” he said. “I also know they will make me the best person I can possibly be. That’s what I really want. I am ready to get back down there.

“I really like how the coaches coach. They are really tuned-in with everything. Nobody is going to feel left out. Everyone gets treated the same. Everyone receives the same love.”

Alabama has the No. 2 recruiting class in the country per the On3 Team Industry Recruiting Rankings (as of 6/1/24). Brooks is one of eight players in the Tide’s class who rank among the Top 100 players in the country. He is the No. 15 WR per On3. He currently intends to graduate in December.

“I feel like they’ve been doing a great job with the class,” Brooks said regarding Alabama’s recruiting efforts thus far. “I’ve seen all the recent news on social media . I don’t think we are going to slow down. Some schools go too heavy on what all they will give you. Alabama just focused on the relationship they build with the players. They make everyone feel at home and welcomed.”

Brooks is uncertain if he will return to Tuscaloosa in late July. The 5-foot-10, 181-pound athlete said he is more than excited about attending his first game at Bryant-Denny Stadium this fall. Brooks isn’t sure which games he will attend at this time. Brooks concluded, “I’m excited. I can’t wait to get back down there.”
