Greg McElroy Makes Blunt Admission on Alabama's Upcoming Football Season

The expectations are still high in Tuscaloosa. Despite losing legendary head coach Nick Saban and starting over with a new coach, Alabama Crimson Tide faithful want at least nine wins in 2024.

Former Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy let the college football world know what new Crimson Tide coach Kalen DeBoer needs to accomplish in the upcoming season. He shared his thoughts on his podcast, "Always College Football."

"10-2, I think you're in the playoffs, 9-3, you're on the fringe and anything less than that, I think would be considered a disappointing year for Kalen DeBoer."

The above belief highlights the pressure DeBoer faces in his first season at Alabama. The pressure he will see is as much a result of his own coaching success as the success of his predecessor.

In 2022, DeBoer took over a Washington Huskies squad that went 4-8 a season prior. In his first season, DeBoer led the Huskies to an 11-2 record. The following season, Washington played for a national title.

Certainly, the coach is more than capable of duplicating that success despite joining a much tougher Southeastern Conference. Outside of the Georgia Bulldogs , Alabama still towers over the rest of the league in talent acquisition.

Whether or not DeBoer can put everything together this year at Alabama will be one of the biggest stories of the 2024 season. The Tide opens with the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers on Aug. 31.
