The SEC might've already the strongest conference in college football before the 2024 season, but the conference managed to get deeper with its latest additions.

After a few years of waiting, Texas and Oklahoma are finally making their SEC debut in 2024. They are both programs on the rise with Oklahoma looking to return to the status that saw it contending for a title every year, while Texas came up a play or two short of making it to the title game this past season after winning the Big 12.

The expectations for both programs are fairly high, but as we have seen this offseason there are a lot of expectations surrounding this Texas program. So much so that ESPN's Greg McElroy named it as one of the two teams that he thinks will be playing for an SEC title in 2024. The other team he picked may come as a surprise to most.

While attending Monday's SEC media day, McElroy was asked to reveal who he thinks will be playing for the SEC title. Joining the Longhorns in his prediction was his alma mater, Alabama.

"I'll take Texas and Alabama in the SEC Championship," ESPN's McElroy said .

Texas may not come as a surprise to most considering that it returns one of the best quarterbacks, offensive lines, and receiver corps in college football, but the Tide are heading into their first year without Nick Saban. The legendary college football coach decided to call it a career after 2023, and has since transitioned into a media role.

If his prediction does come true, it means that the perennial favorite, Georgia, was knocked off. It also would mark the third time in a row that Texas and Alabama have faced off, as they split their meetings the past two years with Alabama winning in Austin in 2022 and Texas winning in Tuscaloosa in 2023.

Whether or not his prediction is one that most agree with is yet to be seen, as Saban himself already said he doesn't think Texas will "run the SEC".

The 2024 season of SEC football is set to be one of the most competitive yet.
