Alabama To Honor Nick Saban With Major Stadium Announcement

Nick Saban has only been retired as the head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide since January, and already the university is honoring him—at least that's the rumor.

On Thursday, it was reported by Tide Illustrated that the University of Alabama plans to honor Saban by naming its football field at Bryant-Denny Stadium after him.

According to ESPN , there's a meeting set for Friday of the Alabama system board of trustees with that matter to be discussed. If passed, there would be a ceremony held in dedication to Saban during the South Florida game on Sept. 7, the Crimson Tide's second game of the 2024 season.

If it wasn't obvious before how important Saban was to the Alabama football program, this should definitely speak volumes.

Not since 1975 has there been any sort of naming to Alabama's stadium and/or field. Originally, when the stadium opened in 1929, it was named Denny Stadium after George H. Denny, who was the university's president from 1912 to 1932. Then, 46 years later, the state legislature added Paul "Bear" Bryant's name to the stadium.

During his 17 seasons at Alabama, Nick Saban led the Crimson Tide to nine SEC Championships and six national championships. On the field that will be honored with his name, Saban achieved an astonishing record of 108-9.

Already is there a statue of the legendary head coach outside the stadium.

Saban is now part of ESPN's college football analysts.
