We are about a month away from the beginning of the 2024 college football season. This means that we will soon find out the extent of the drop-off, if any, that the Alabama Crimson Tide will experience following Nick Saban's departure.

Nick Saban won six national championships at Alabama since 2007 and is arguably the greatest college football coach of all time. Kalen DeBoer has replaced Saban and is off to a great start in his career. DeBoer led the Washington Huskies to the national championship game last season before losing their undefeated record in his fourth season as a head coach at the FBS level.

This season, ESPN's Paul Finebaum was asked about the Crimson Tide's prospects. He responded that he believes Alabama will finish with a 10-2 record.

"I think 10-2 is my number right now," Finebaum said.

Finebaum discussed how impressive DeBoer has been throughout his career. ESPN's Football Power Index seems to agree with Finebaum's assessment of the Crimson Tide. It predicts that Alabama will finish the year with a 9-3 record but still ranks the Crimson Tide as the No. 5 team in the country.

The Crimson Tide has a 14.4% chance of winning the conference but a 57.2% chance of making the College Football Playoff. Alabama also has a higher chance of making the national championship game at 15.3% than it does of winning the SEC.
