TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — Tuscaloosa Police are investigating a homicide after they say a verbal argument in the Embassy Suites parking lot downtown turned deadly Saturday night.

Police were called to the scene around 9:10 p.m. at 2410 University Blvd.

Tuscaloosa VCU Captain Jack Kennedy said the suspect was friends with the victim. The homicide occurred when, following an argument, the suspect got a firearm from his car and shot the victim once, killing him.

Jackson Luke Overton, 18, of Winfield was arrested and charged with murder.

The victim has been identified as Howell Booth Holland, III, 21, of Fayette.

Police said no one involved in the incident was staying at or connected to the hotel. The two had their vehicle parked there after visiting downtown clubs and bars.
