Trent Richardson has found his next football opportunity

Former Alabama Crimson Tide running back Trent Richardson has been away from football for a minute. But the iconic college football star has finally found his next opportunity to be around the sport.

Hoover High School in Alabama announced that Richardson would be joining the high school football coaching staff. The Hoover Bucs X account made the announcement , although they didn't clarify what exact role he would have on the staff.

The high school is less than an hour away from Tuscaloosa, so it's a bit of a homecoming for Richardson. He left the Crimson Tide as one of the most decorated running backs in program history. Along with two national titles, Richardson finished his college career with unanimous All-American honors, the SEC Offensive Player of the Year, and the Doak Walker Award for the nation's best running back. He rushed for 3,243 yards and 35 touchdowns over three seasons.

The Cleveland Browns took a chance on Richardson, taking him with the third overall pick. Despite his struggles, the Indianapolis Colts infamously traded a first-round pick to Cleveland. He continued to struggle in Indianapolis, and bounced around the league before flaming out. He only got carries over three NFL seasons, averaging just 3.3 yards per carry.

Richardson saw a bit of a late-career revival in the CFL and AAF. He ended up leading the AAF with 11 rushing touchdowns in eight games for the Birmingham Iron before the league folded.

Despite his pro struggles, Crimson Tide fans will fondly remember Richardson for his sheer size and dominance at the college level. He'll now have the opportunity to share some of his wisdom and experience with players at the high school level with this new coaching opportunity.
