Former Alabama football player Christion Jones was named the new football coach at Paul W. Bryant High School on Friday, the school announced on X , formerly Twitter.
Jones replaces coach John McKenzie , who led the Stampede to a 3-7 mark in 2023 during his one season with the program. It was announced last week that McKenzie is the new coach at Vigor, returning to the Wolves program in Mobile County after leading them to a state championship in 2021 before being placed on administrative leave for undisclosed reasons.
Jones joins the Stampede after coaching special teams and track and field at Central on coach Demario Pippen's staff. Jones played for the Crimson Tide and coach Nick Saban from 2011-14. The Adamsville served as a punt returner and wide receiver for the Crimson Tide, earning SEC Special Teams Player of the Year honors in 2013. He also is a two-time BCS National Champion (2012, 2013).

After college, Jones was a practice squad member for the Miami Dolphins before playing in the Canadian Football League with Toronto, Saskatchewan and Edmonton.
Jones becomes the seventh head coach in Stampede program history. He will be looking to lead Paul W. Bryant to its first winning season and playoff bid since the 2019 season.
Jones will be making his coaching debut on Aug. 23 when the Stampede host Percy Julian.
