SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) On Friday afternoon the new South Bend School Committee held a public demolition meeting to discuss the future of five non-operating school buildings. According to our reporting partners the South Bend Tribune, back in April the committee voted 4-3 to demolish the old Marquette School, the former Greene Intermediate Center and Eggleston Elementary School.
Federal Sentence for Gun Sale in Michigan City
(South Bend, IN) - A Chicago man has been sentenced on a federal gun charge with ties to Michigan City. In January of last year, 42-year-old Allory Smith of Chicago sold a rifle, a handgun, and ammunition to a buyer in the Michigan City area. According to authorities, Smith referred to the rifle as a “real license to kill” because he believed it had previously been reported stolen. With several prior felony convictions, Smith is prohibited from possessing firearms.

Marshall County Election Board Discusses Resolution for Public Question on the Ballot
The Marshall County Election Board members discussed a resolution filed by the Bremen Town Council to include a public question on the General Election ballot. The Bremen Town Council members have discussed increasing the number of council members from four to five for several years. The addition of the fifth member would relieve the burden of the clerk-treasurer to provide a tie breaking vote as it currently stands by statute.

PulsePoint Respond alerts CPR-trained citizens to cardiac arrest victims nearby so they may administer aid and help save lives. Today, La Porte County E-911, along with the City of La Porte HEARTSafe Community Task Force, announced the launch of PulsePoint in La Porte County. The event was held at the La Porte Municipal Airport and was highlighted by messages from Dr. Gary Wheeland, retired physician and Health Foundation of La Porte Board Member; City of La Porte Mayor Tom Dermody; La Porte County E-911 Assistant Director Matt Deckard; La Porte County EMS Administrator Eric Fenstermaker; Play for Jake Foundation founder Julie West; City of La Porte Fire Department Chief Andy Snyder; and La Porte County Council President Randy Novak. The speakers detailed the benefits of PulsePoint, a free-to-download mobile app, which 1) alerts CPR-trained citizens of cardiac events in their vicinity so they may administer aid, 2) helps build a comprehensive Automated External Defibrillator (AED) registry and 3) informs the community of emergency activity in real time.
