PHOENIX – The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has issued a weekend travel advisory for Phoenix area drivers, with significant freeway closures and restrictions.

These closures are part of ongoing improvement projects, including the Broadway Curve Improvement Project and pavement maintenance efforts across various freeways, according to ADOT.

Motorists are advised to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and consider alternate routes.

    Major Closures and Restrictions:

Westbound I-10 Closure for Broadway Curve Project

    When: 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, to 4 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19.

Where: Westbound I-10 between Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) and the I-17 "Split" interchange near Sky Harbor Airport.

Details: This extensive closure is necessary to facilitate a traffic shift as part of the Broadway Curve Improvement Project. All westbound I-10 on-ramps between Loop 202 and I-17 will be closed.

Additional early closures will occur at Wild Horse Pass Boulevard and select US 60 on-ramps.

Detours: Drivers are encouraged to use eastbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) to northbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) and westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) to reach Sky Harbor Airport and downtown Phoenix.

For long-distance travel, westbound I-8 to northbound SR 85 in Gila Bend provides an alternate route to reach I-10 in Buckeye.

Southbound I-17 Closure at Jomax Road

    When: 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, to 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19

Where: Southbound I-17 at Jomax Road in north Phoenix.

Details: Pavement improvements will necessitate the closure of southbound I-17 at Jomax Road. Additionally, the southbound lanes will be narrowed to one lane between Loop 303 and Jomax Road.

Detours: Southbound traffic will be routed off and back onto I-17 using the Jomax Road ramps. ADOT advises avoiding nearby streets and traveling during off-peak hours.

Eastbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) Closure

    When: 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, to 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19.

Where: Eastbound Loop 202 between Arizona Avenue and Gilbert Road.

Details: This closure is required for a freeway widening project. On-ramps at Dobson and Alma School roads will also be closed, along with the eastbound Loop 202 on-ramp at Price Road from Saturday evening to Monday morning.

Detours: Drivers should consider using Pecos or Germann Road as alternate eastbound routes.

Westbound US 60 (Superstition Freeway) Lane Restrictions

    When: 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, to 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19.

Where: Westbound US 60 between Gilbert and Dobson roads.

Details: Pavement maintenance will reduce westbound US 60 to three lanes, with right lanes closed. On-ramps between Gilbert and Dobson roads will be inaccessible.

Detours: Consider exiting ahead of the work zone and using Baseline Road or Southern Avenue as alternate routes.
