TEEN DIES IN SUV VERSUS MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT
A teen from Umpqua died in an SUV versus motorcycle accident Wednesday afternoon. A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 2:15 p.m. the SUV driver was headed west on Garden Valley Road when she made a left-hand turn into River Forks Market, near the intersection with Curry Road. The vehicle made the turn in front of the motorcyclist, who was driving east on a street bike at a high rate of speed.
27 CONFIRMED FIRES ON THE UMPQUA NATIONAL FOREST
As of late Friday, there are 27 confirmed fires on the Umpqua National Forest. A UNF release said 7 of the fires are 100 percent contained. The region is dealing with a shortage of resources, and these new fires are being staffed based on the values that are at risk. Wildfire smoke has had a significant impact on aviation resources.
Air quality alert issued through Monday for Jackson County
Smoke from Douglas County fires drifting south into Ashland. Smoke from wildfires in Douglas County prompted issuance of an air quality advisory on Saturday evening by Jackson County Public Health, effective through Monday, July 22. Depending on weather patterns and fire activity, air quality could be impacted for longer, the announcement said.
Boulder Flat fire continues to burn in Douglas County
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. – The Boulder Flat fire continues to burn near the Slide Creek and Soda Springs area. According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Level 2 ‘Be Set’ evacuation notices have been issued for all homes in the Slide Creek Area, downstream to the Soda Springs area. Pacific Power has released water from the Soda Springs dam in response to the fire.
DEPUTIES JAIL MAN FOR ALLEGED STRANGULATION, HARASSMENT
Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office jailed a man on the charges of strangulation and harassment, following an incident early Thursday. A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 4:00 a.m. the 25-year-old allegedly initiated a physical altercation with the victim, by choking her and biting her. The incident took place in the 200 block of Berry Loop Lane in Green.
Trail fire over 1,000 acres, Diamond Lake campground closed
