    ULM Remains Undefeated and Other Weekend College Action

    ULM Lady Warhawks (2-0-0) stayed undefeated with a 2-0 win over Southern Lady Jaguars in Baton Rouge on Sunday morning. LSU-A Lady Generals (1-1-0) and Generals (1-0) pulled the double win over Texas Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon. Northwestern State continues to battle top-notch competition as they fell 4-0 to No. 18 Mississippi State on Sunday in Starkville, Mississippi. Grambling (2-0-1) grabbed another road as the South Louisiana tour continued with a 2-0 win over Nicholls State.

    LSU-Alexandria 4, Texas Wesleyan 2 (Saturday) (Women)

    The Lady Generals took control early in the first half and never looked back for the remainder of the match. Sofia Jimeno Nogue and Ksenjia Pavlovic each added two goals for the win. LSU-A outshot Texas Wesleyan 14-9. Pavlovic and Elke Tijnik led shooting with four shots each. Goalkeeper Victoria Weber had 2 saves in the win.

    The Lady Generals struck fast against the Lady Rams as they grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the match. Sophia Jimeno Nogue scored the first goal of the season for the Lady Generals in the 3rd minute. Pavlovic added a second goal in the 7th minute with an assist from Micaela Nunes. LSU-A maintained the 2-0 lead to halftime.

    The Lady Rams closed the gap in the 55th minute with a goal from Alexa Bezpalko. Jimeno-Nogue reclaimed the two-goal lead in the 69th minute. Pavlovic put the game further out of reach at 4-1 in the 69th minute. Texas Wesleyan added one more goal but LSU-A Held on for the win.

    LSU-Alexandria 2, Texas Wesleyan 1 (Saturday) (Men)

    The Generals opened the 2024 campaign with a 2-1 win over the Texas Wesleyan Rams in Alexandria. LSU-A was outshot by the Rams 15-11. Orin Mitchell and Adam Sherwood scored the two goals for the Generals. Joshua Angel Craven was awarded two assists. Sherwood was the top shooter with three shots. Valeriu Tarlev had two saves.

    LSU-A scored in the first ten minutes as Orin Mitchell scored in the 9th minute. Javier Moscardo and Craven were credited with the assist. The Rams evened the match in the 40th minute with a goal from Diogo Stefane. The two teams headed into halftime knotted at 1.

    Sherwood broke the tie in the 60th minute with Craven getting his second assists. LSU-A held on for their first win of the season.

    ULM 2, Southern 0

    The Lady Warhawks (2-0-0) stay undefeated with a 2-0 road win over the Southern Lady Jaguars on a Sunday morning match. The Lady Warhawk defense has yet to give up a goal this season. Kai Douglas and Bernadette Stefan's two goals were enough to capture the win. ULM once against dominated shooting 12-3 advantage including not allowing a shot in the second half. Jennifer Handy had one save for ULM.

    Kai Douglas scored the lone goal of the first half in the 16th minute.

    Bernadette Stefan added the insurance goal in the 75th minute of the second half.

    Grambling 2, Nicholls 0

    The Lady Tigers (2-0-1) continued to have a successful road trip not taking a loss on their trip through South Louisiana. Two quick first-half goals from Jayla Gage and Alana Aiken were enough to take down the Lady Colonels. Grambling once again outshot their opponents as they had 14-7 Aiken took half those shots for the Lady Tigers. Madison Covey-Taylor had three saves for Grambling.

    Gage gave the Lady Tigers the first goal in the 23rd minute with an assist from Kennedy Farr. A little over a minute later, Aiken netted her goal with an assist from Morgan Johnson for the 2-0 lead. That’s all Grambling needed for the win.

    No. 18 Mississippi State 4, NSU 0

    The Lady Demons (0-2-0) continued to take on power conference rivals as they took on the SEC and nationally ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs. Northwestern State has yet to score a goal in their first two matches. The Lady Demons were only allowed one shot compared to Mississippi State’s 29 shots. The lone shot came from Bailey Porter. Libe Banuelos had 8 saves against the Lady Bulldogs.

    Mississippi State scored early in the 5th minute with a goal from Alivia Buxton. The Northwestern State defense stood strong on the Lady Bulldogs’ third as they were bombarded with 3 corner kicks within the next 11 minutes. Mississippi State held on to 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

    The Lady Bulldogs received a penalty kick in the 79th minute and widened the lead with a Aitana Martinez-Montoya goal. Exactly two minutes later Naila Schoefberger scored the third goal of the match. Mississppi State added one just aminute late.

    Louisiana Tech 0, Louisiana 0

    The Bulldogs (0-0-2) had their second consecutive scoreless tie. The defense held back the Ragin Cajuns with the Bulldogs getting outshot 21-7. Sarah Melan had 8 saves for Louisiana Tech. Dakota Merino and Taylor Cassidy each had two shots for the Bulldogs.
