    ULM and Grambling Have I-20 Soccer Battle; Tech, LSUS, LCU On The Pitch

    ULM 3, Grambling 1

    The ULM Lady Warhawks (3-0-0) won an I-20 battle in Monroe over the Grambling Lady Tigers (2-1-1) with a 3-1 win. Matha Grutkamp had a hand in all three ULM goals as she had a goal and two assists. Beth Strutton and Vanessa Praher scored the other two goals for the Lady Warhawks. Grutkamp also snagged two assists along with her goal. Grutkamp and Praher were the top shot-takers for ULM. ULM slightly outshot Grambling 10-7. Jennifer Handy had three saves for the Lady Warhawks

    Grambling lone goal came from Westminster, CA native Cindy Norfles. Norfles also took the most shots for the Lady Tigers. Madison Covey-Taylor collected three saves

    Grambling netted the first goal on a penalty kick by Norfles in the 18th minute. The Lady Tigers hardly had time to celebrate as ULM’s Grutkamp with help from Praher scored the equalizer in the 20th minute. The Lady Warhawks took the lead in the 30th minute with a goal from Beth Strutton and an assist from Grutkamp. ULM took a 2-1 lead to the locker room at halftime.

    Praher had her opportunity to add to the ULM lead in the 71st minute and yes the assist came from Grutkamp. The Lady Warhawks held on to remain undefeated.

    South Alabama 2, Louisiana Tech 0

    The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (0-1-2) are still looking for that elusive first goal of the season as they suffered its first loss of the season at home against South Alabama. A matchup that showed two closely matched opponents with South Alabama having the 10-8 edge in shots and an 8-6 advantage in corner kicks. Cadence Rutledge had two saves for the night

    South Alabama’s two first-half goals by April Lantainge and Irene Campo were enough to hold back the Bulldogs to get the win.

    Science of Arts of Oklahoma 4, LSUS 2

    The Lady Pilots (0-1-0) had a strong first half but the USAO Drovers had a stronger second half as LSUS fell 4-2 in their season opener. Dawniella Torres and Juliana Anchondo each had a goal for the Lady Pilots. Although LSUS contained the Drovers in the first half and outshot them 5-4 in the first half. USAO blasted 12-4 in the second half and gave an overall 16-9 overall. Torres and Diana Godines let the Lady Pilots with three shots each. Melanie Garcia had 6 saves.

    Dawniella Torres was credited with the first Lady Pilot 2024 season in the 26th minute. Paulina Fierro was there for the assist. Favor seemed to come to the Lady Pilots as Anchondo gave LSUS the 2-0 lead. Diana Godines was given the assist. LSUS maintained the 2-0 lead to halftime.

    Then came the second half…Daniella Salinas scored in the 67th minute and cut the lead in half. The Drovers worked the bench and had five substitutions to tie the match. Salinas scored her second goal in the 78th minute. LSUS attempted to break the stalemate with the two corners and a few shots. USAO snuck in the third goal from Katie O’Keefe in the 88th minute. The Drovers added an insurance goal in the 90th minute from Ilse de Jong to give USAO the road win.

    LCU 4, Science of Arts of Oklahoma 0 (Men)

    The Wildcats moved to 2-0 for the season with a home 4-0 win over USAO Drovers. Adriana Amoros Navarro had a hand in three of the four goals with a goal and two assists. Pedro Sao Tiago had a goal and an assist in the Wildcats win. Other goals came from Thiago Lopes and Duartee Mendes. LCU had accurate shooting scoring four goals on 9 shots and the Wildcats were outshot 12-9. Otavio Marini had the lone save.

    LCU struck first in the 13th minute with an Amoros Navarro goal with an assist from Sao Tiago. little over five minutes later Sao Thiago netted his goal with help from Amaros Navarro. The Wildcats expanded the lead to 3-0 in the 30th minute with a goal from Lopes and Amaros Navarro giving his second assist for the night. LCU had a strong 3-0 heading into halftime

    The Wildcats didn’t waste time as Mendes scored just 59 seconds into the second half. Juan Sierra was credited with the assist. The Wildcats held on for the 4-0 win.
