    Pioneer Museum rolls into the Fourth

    The Pioneer Museum of Alabama is “Rolling into the Fourth!

    On Thursday, the Fourth of July 2024, the Pioneer Museum of Alabama will christen a new addition to the museum’s outdoor exhibits, the Locklar Rolling Store, est. 1947.

    Barbara Tatom, museum director, said the history of the rolling store that served the area around Union Springs/Bullock County from 1947 until 2002 will be told by its original owners, Cecile and Faye Locklar.

    The Locklars will be the honored guests at the “Rolling into the Fourth” celebration and they will have center stage from which to tell the story of the rolling stores, which were the Walmarts of their times.

    Tatom said the dedication and opening of the Locklar Rolling Store will be during the hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The museum will be open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

    “Rolling into the Fourth” will include ice cream and fried apples, games, live music, children’s activities and the unveiling of the Artemis I Moon Tree.
