DEC: New Yorkers Need To Check Pools And Trees For Invasive Beetle
The New York State DEC told New Yorkers to be on the lookout in pools and trees for an invasive insect that attacks and kills maple and other hardwood trees. According to the DEC, the Asian longhorned beetle, or 'ALB,' is "an invasive wood-boring insect that feeds on a variety of hardwoods, including maple, birch, elm, ash, poplar, horse chestnut, and willow."
Cornell University laboratory to receive $30M expansion after New York State investment
ITHACA (WBNG) -- A new expansion project is set to begin on Cornell University’s Animal Health Diagnostic Center and New York State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. The state is contributing $19.5 million and the university $10 million to add 26,000 square feet of usable space in the lab. Executive Director at the AHDC Francois Elvinger said these investments will further the research done to help fight emerging diseases and improve the state’s ecosystem.
