Cortland Repertory Theatre Ends Summer Mainstage Season with “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast”
Cortland Repertory Theatre closes their 53rd summer season with a three-week run of the popular musical “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast”. This production will run from July 31 – August 17 at the Little York Pavilion, with evening performances at 7:30 PM. Matinees at 2:00 PM are available on August 2, 6, 7, 11, and 14. This exciting and heartwarming show boasts music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, and a book by Linda Woolverton. The original Broadway production was directed by Robert Jess Roth, and was originally produced by Disney Theatrical Productions. The original music supervision and new arrangements are by Michael Kosarin, with dance music arrangements by Glen Kelly and orchestrations by Danny Troob.
Eric Machan Howd Wins National Poetry Contest
Eric Machan Howd (H&S, Class of 1990) is the first place winner in the 2024 Heart Poetry Award from Nostalgia Press. His poem, "Piano," was selected as the winner from a pool of approximately 160 submissions. Later this year his poem will be featured in the print issue. The prize comes with national recognition and publication as well as a cash prize.
Ithaca Dirt Riders 52nd Annual Sprint Enduro – Sunday, August 18, 2024
In the early 1970’s, a small group of local off-road motorcycle enthusiasts came together to form the Ithaca Dirt Riders (IDR). It was their vision to provide some local trails and events for their club members and other to enjoy. A year later, the club chartered with the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA). With many of its member interested in the AMA sport of enduros, the club sanctioned its first event. This year is the 52nd anniversary of The Ithaca Dirt Riders Enduro! It will be held on Sunday, August 18 at 253 Andersen Hill Road, Berkshire, NY 13736 starting at 10:00 am. You can sign-up for the event from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Saturday, July 17, and on Sunday morning, from 7:30 am to 9:00 am. The sprint enduro consists of three “loops” through fields and woods. It is a great experience for riders with many technical challenges for them. Riders can ride as young as 12 years old, if they have a bike with at least a 19” front tire. There are NO spectator fees, but there is lots of chances to see your favorite rider during the event. A food truck will be on hand on Sunday and there is free primitive camping! With the help of many volunteers and supporters, the Ithaca Dirt Riders have not only been able to host this local event, but many AMA national events over the years. IDR not only promote the sport of off-road riding, but also help the local communities.

Police seek assistance in Genoa auto theft investigation
GENOA, NY (CortacaToday) -Authorities are trying to track down a vehicle stolen in Cayuga County. Late last month, deputies responded to East Genoa Road in the Town of Genoa for a report of a missing 1998 Chevy 2500 pickup truck. The vehicle is brown with a white cap on the bed. Gov. Kathy Hochul announces $54M in funding to continue Second Ave subway extension
