IUPD raised its base pay. Now Bloomington PD is lowest paying agency in Monroe County
Bloomington Police Department (BPD) is now the lowest-paying police department in Monroe County, after the Indiana University Police Department raised its statewide base salary nearly $7,000 — an increase city officials worry will exacerbate the difficulty BPD already has with recruiting and retaining officers. BPD is authorized to hire 105 full-time officers, but currently has only 89 — nine of whom are in field officer training and can't work solo patrols. ...
Youngest Monroe County GOP leader in history, Taylor Bryant, resigns
Taylor Bryant was an 18-year-old Indiana University freshman when she took the reins of Monroe County’s Republican Party, the youngest local party leader in history. Three years later, she’s stepping out of the role. She said it’s too expensive to live in the community where she grew up; and she’s moved out of the county and no longer is eligible to complete her 4-year term.

Monroe County Government’s offices, including the Court, will be closed today. Jail employees, road deputies, and Highway workers are not affected by this closure. This is the second consecutive day with a similar closing. Yesterday the message sent out stated that it was due to unforseen circumstances. No further information regarding the reasoning nor the possibility of a prolonged closure have been provided.
Bloomington restaurants, bars welcome back happy hour after 39 years
On July 1, Hoosier bars and restaurants began offering something missing from the state's beverage scene for 39 years: Happy hour is back. On April 14, Gov. Eric Holcomb signed House Bill 1086, which allows restaurants and bars in Indiana to once again have and promote "happy hours" by offering alcoholic beverages for a discounted price during certain hours each week.

Mackenzie Holmes and Lauren Fields Named Graduate Managers for Indiana University Women’s Basketball Indiana Women’s Basketball has announced the addition of the program’s all-time leading scorer Mackenzie Holmes and Lauren Fields as graduate managers for the 2024-25 season. Holmes recently wrapped up her decorated career at Indiana where she played in 147 games for the Hoosiers in five seasons. She finished her career ranking first in the program as the all-time leading scorer (2,530) and in field goals made (1,043), field goal percentage (63.9) and games won (123). Holmes led the team to four NCAA Tournament runs in her career, most recently to the Sweet Sixteen in 2024. She averaged a team-high of 19.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game in her fifth year.

Jeff Baldwin CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington announces his retirement
BLOOMINGTON – Jeff Baldwin, CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington, has announced he will retire in December 2024. Baldwin began his service to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington as Executive Director in 2006. During his 18 years of leadership, the Club has grown from having 2 Club locations serving 180 youth per day to now having 4 locations and serving over 700 kids per day across the organization. An additional 1700 youth are also served annually through Lemonade Day, the Father-Daughter Dance, Hoops Hysteria, and Camp Rock- all of which were established or enhanced under Jeff’s leadership.

Indiana soccer alumnus Aidan Morris joins EFL Championship side Middlesbrough FC
There were 16 players in the top two division of English soccer representing the United States at the national team level. On June 28, Aidan Morris raised the number to 17. The former Indiana soccer star signed for Middlesbrough FC, a club in the second division of English soccer in the English Football League Championship. The announcement was made official on the club’s X account.
