The Lord Jesus was not dishonoring the people in His earthly family, but was demonstrating that the only way to get close to God is to make Him the most important Person in our lives. We do this as we carry out His Word. In the same way that Christ's delight was to do the will of His Father, so we should be filled with our love for the Lord Jesus, that no one is more important in our life than Him. Nothing is of greater significance than gaining a deeper knowledge of Him, obeying His Word, doing His will, and remaining faithful in the task He has given us to do. There is a strong emphasis in this passage, on the importance of reading, learning, knowing, applying, meditating, and inwardly digesting The Truths Contained In The Word Of God. It is only as we hear His Word and carry out His will, that we are enabled to draw closer to Him and increasingly enjoy communion with Him and with our Heavenly Father. As believers, we are all members of His heavenly family but this passage makes it clear that those closest to Jesus are the ones that hear His Word and do it: "My mother and My brothers are those who hear the Word of God and do it.

"He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.”

Our United Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You that we have been born into the family of mankind and that through faith in Christ, we have been born again into Your family and became Your children. Thank You that by faith in Christ, we have been transferred from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of Your Son. Thank You that in Him we have been purchased from above, made an heir of salvation, are now part of Your heavenly family, and that eternal life has become our present possession. Just as You said that Your mother and My brothers are those who hear the Word of God and do it, We pray that we would hear Your Word and read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest it so that by the power of the Holy Spirit, we may obey You in thoughts, words and deeds, for Your greater glory. This we ask in Jesus' name, AMEN.
