Authorities are investigation small plane crashes on back-to-back days in Santa Paula. The first crash happened Saturday afternoon near S. Largo Lane and W. Telegraph Road. It's unclear what caused the plane, a single-engine Aviat Husky A-1C, to go down, but SkyCal flew over the scene where a small group of people could be seen near the aircraft. Rising Stars Youth Leadership Program Accepting Applications for 21st Session
The Rising Stars Youth Leadership Program is now accepting applications for its 21st annual program. Any interested high school student can apply now online. Rising Stars is a seven-month program that takes place on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Union Church in Little Tokyo. It begins on Oct. 12, 2024 and ends on April 5, 2025, and sessions occur every other week.

3 arrested for clothing theft at Kohl's store in Simi Valley following pursuit
Three people have been arrested for clothing theft from a Kohl's retail store in Simi Valley following a pursuit. The incident unfolded in the late afternoon on August 24th, after Simi Valley police were alerted to a license plate hit on a stolen car. The car was then located in the parking lot of a Kohl's on Tapo Canyon Road. As officers arrived and attempted to make contact with two people inside a vehicle, a third person exited the Kohl's allegedly carrying an arm-full of clothing and entered the car. A pursuit was initiated and concluded about 12 miles into the foothills near the Santa Clara Valley Gas Plant. The three people in the car were taken into custody and the clothing valued at $734 was located inside the car. Police said the vehicle the suspects were in was confirmed stolen from Cerritos. An 18-year-old was arrested and booked on suspicion of possessing a stolen car, organized retail theft, and other charges. Two juveniles inside the car were arrested and cited for organized retail theft and conspiracy, and released to family members, police said.

Wind-driven fire quickly consumes more than 70 acres of brush in San Bernardino County
Firefighters are working to contain a brush fire currently burning in a remote part of San Bernardino County. The blaze, which has been dubbed the Summit Fire, was first reported at around 3:45 p.m. near Highway 173 and Highway 138 in Hesperia, according to a post on X from the San Bernardino County Fire Department. At first, it was reported to be about three acres, but by 6:30 p.m., crews said that the fire had consumed about 78 acres of brush due to the moderate rate of spread fueled by winds in the area. It is currently 5% contained. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Due to its location, firefighters said that the flames were not threatening any structures.
