Swormstedt is First Woman to Win Pemaquid Beach Triathlon
A former NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse champion outpaced more than one hundred other competitors to win the Pemaquid Beach Triathlon during pleasant summer weather on Sunday, Aug. 25 in Bristol. Sidney Swormstedt of Laconia, NH became the first female to win the overall race championship. Her blazing time of 1:18:48 beat the closest competitor by more than two minutes. Swormstedt was a member of the 2016 women’s lacrosse team at the University of North Carolina that won the national championship during her freshman season.
Brunswick museum raises funds to preserve Civil War hero's boots and saddle
BRUNSWICK, Maine — Joshua Chamberlain is perhaps, Maine's favorite son. A hero of the Battle of Gettysburg, his 20th Maine regiment helped turn the tide of the Civil War. At the Joshua Chamberlain Museum in Brunswick, curators with the Pejepscot History Center maintain the general's home, where he and his family lived during the war and after, as he became president of nearby Bowdoin College before successfully running for governor.

Enrollment in schools down – Enrollment was lower in all six schools of School Administrative District (SAD) 27, according to a preliminary report on the first day, Aug. 19, 1974. The total enrollment showed a loss of 107 students over last year’s figures, with 2,336 for this year, compared with 2,443 on the first day of last year. School officials indicate that these are preliminary figures and will be adjusted prior to potato harvest.

Authorities seize cocaine, fentanyl and guns during Farmington bust
FARMINGTON (WGME) -- A Maine man and a Massachusetts man are facing drug trafficking charges after police say they seized $40,000 worth of cocaine and fentanyl in Farmington. Following a three-month investigation, the MDEA says they discovered 42-year-old Jason Robbins of Farmington was distributing large amounts of cocaine and crack cocaine in Farmington and surrounding communities in Franklin County.
