    Khyree Jackson, Vikings’ fourth-round pick and former Oregon corner, dead at 24 after car crash

    Khyree Jackson, the Vikings’ fourth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and a former cornerback at Oregon, died in the early hours of Saturday morning in a car crash that left two others dead in Maryland.

    He was 24.

    Jackson died in his hometown of Upper Marlboro.

    “We are devastated by the news of Khyree Jackson’s death following an overnight car accident,” the Vikings said in a statement . “Our thoughts are with Khyree’s family, friends, teammates and coaches, as well as all the victims of this tragic accident.”

    Maryland State Police are investigating the crash, which left two other individuals dead in addition to Jackson.

    The other two fatalities were identified as Isaiah Hazel, 23, and Anthony Lytton, Jr., 24.

    Jackson and Hazel were pronounced dead at the scene, while Lytton was later confirmed to be dead after being transported to the hospital.

    “All three victims were occupants of a maroon Dodge Charger involve in the crash,” the Maryland State Police said in a statement . “Hazel was the driver. Jackson was the front seat passenger and Lytton was seated in the rear of the vehicle.

    “Shortly after 3:14 a.m. this morning, troopers from the Forestville Barrack responded to a crash on northbound Route 4/Pennsylvania Avenue and Presidential Parkway north of Dower House Road in Upper Marlboro. The three vehicles in the crash were a silver Infinity Q50, a silver Chevrolet Impala and a maroon Dodge Charger.”

    The Maryland State Police’s statement said the preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of the Infinity Q50 attempted to change lanes at a high speed and struck the Dodge Charger Jackson was in before then striking the Chevrolet Impala.

    “The Charger subsequently traveled off of the right side of the roadway and struck multiple tree stumps where the vehicle came to rest,” the statement continued.

    Investigators also indicated that “alcohol may have been a contributing circumstance in the crash.”

    The Vikings selected Jackson with the eighth pick in the fourth round (No. 108 overall) out of Oregon, making him the 14th cornerback taken in the draft.

    “The NFL family is deeply saddened and devastated by the passing of Vikings rookie Khyree Jackson,” the league said in a statement. “Our thoughts and condolences are with his family, loved ones and everybody involved in this tragic accident.”

    He played at Oregon for one season after transferring from Alabama, where he had played the two previous seasons.

    Jackson recorded three interceptions and 34 total tackles last season with the Ducks.

    “RIP Khyree… Love you @Real_Khyree at a loss for words,” Oregon head coach Dan Lanning wrote on X . “I will miss your smile. Great player better person.”

    Jackson had recently attended Vikings rookie minicamp and OTA’s and had quickly made an impression on the team.

    “I am absolutely crushed by this news,” Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said in a statement. “Khyree brought a contagious energy to our facility and our team. His confidence and engaging personality immediately drew his teammates to him.

    “In our short time together, it was evident Khyree was going to develop into a tremendous professional football player, but what was more impressive was his desire to become the best person he could be for his family and those around him. I am at a loss for words.

    “My heart goes out to Khyree’s family, friends, teammates and coaches.”
