John Bambling Injured In a Mine; Covered With Coal — John Bambling met with an accident on Sandy Run late Saturday afternoon when he and Fred Rice were mining coal about four miles from Hopewell, Bedford County. The young men were working together. A fall of rock covered Rice completely and John Bambling sustained a broken arm. Bambling was able to extricate himself from the debris and drove his car to Hopewell to secure medical attention. He was later taken to the Roaring Spring Hospital where his fracture was reduced. The arm was very seriously mangled and it is thought that the physician will be unable to save it. Rice, who is 18 years of age, was able to get out before help reached the Ines. Their lamps were extinguished and everything was dark. Bambling thought his working partner had been killed and the persons who went to rescue were surprised to find him outside of the mine. Bambling is a popular fellow, plays on the Hopewell baseball team and is considered a star. He is a married man with several children. It was indeed a fortunate end of the unfortunate occurrence.
