Obituary: Peter S. Carmichael
Peter S. Carmichael, 58 of Gettysburg, PA passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at the York Hospital. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at Christ Lutheran Church, 30 Chambersburg St. Gettysburg, PA. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday, July 26th from 5:00-7:00 PM and on Saturday from 9:00-10:30 AM. The Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements. Obituary: Viola Mae Miller
Viola Mae (McGlaughlin) Miller, 89 of Gettysburg, PA passed away at the Gettysburg Hospital on Saturday, July 20, 2024. Born January 27, 1935 in Fairfield, PA she was the daughter of the late Ralph & Leila (Warren) McGlaughlin. Viola was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Jack R. Miller, who died December 06, 2015. She enjoyed knitting, tending to her garden and canning fruits and vegetables. The most important thing in her life was her family and the joy of spending time, caring for and watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Viola will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her three children, Francis R. Miller (Karen) of Orrtanna, PA, Donna L. Cooper (Steve) Abbottstown, PA and Wendy A. Schubbe of Gettysburg, six grandchildren, Jason Miller (Jody), Justin Ryder (Kami), Rebecca Shartzer (Tommy), Allyson Mangum (Michael), Madyson Schubbe (Ryan Hanson) and Jackson Hilbert, six great grandchildren, Brandon, Brittany, Grayson, Leila, Taylor and Emma, a brother, Roger McGlaughlin (Sandy) of York Springs, PA and a sister, Shirley Thomas (Ron) of Gettysburg. In addition to her husband and parents, Viola was predeceased by a sister, Doris Miller and a brother, Edwin McGlaughlin. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 2, 2024 at the Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg with Pastor Allen Hersh, officiating. Interment will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. A Visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral services on Friday, August 2nd. Baltimore Man Sentenced to Seven Life Terms for Triple Murder in Franklin County
Christopher Van Johnson, 36, of Baltimore, Maryland, received seven consecutive life sentences on July 17, 2024, for his involvement in the murders of three individuals on June 25, 2016, in Mercersburg, Franklin County. U.S. District Court Judge Christopher C. Conner also imposed concurrent 10, 20, and 30-year terms for related robbery, firearms, and conspiracy charges.
Hagerstown man charged in recent double shooting that left one dead
Hagerstown Police have arrested one of two suspects in last Thursday's fatal shooting near downtown Hagerstown, according to court documents. Brandon Lamont Hinton Jr., 24, is facing numerous charges including first-degree murder for the death of Rusty Mark Edwards, 49, according to charging documents filed in Washington County District Court. Edwards would have turned 50 on Saturday.

Sheetz shooter gets 11-month minimum sentence and immediate parole
A Carlisle man was paroled Tuesday after appearing for sentencing on charges related to a jarring, open-air shooting adjacent to a Cumberland County Sheetz store last summer. Angelo C. Rice, 22, had previously pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and reckless endangerment charges for shooting another man who pursued him from Carlisle to the Sheetz property at 1098 Harrisburg Pike, in Middlesex Township, last July 26.
