Sentinel police log for July 23
Carlisle Police (717-243-5252) Mark Alan Basehore Jr., 48, of Carlisle, was charged with misdemeanor indecent exposure, displaying obscene materials, corruption of minors and open lewdness after an incident at LeTort Park at 10:16 a.m. July 22. Police said an employee with Carlisle Parks and Recreation reported a shirtless man at the pavilion exposing and pleasuring himself with children present. Police said three juveniles - ages 9, 11 and 14 - were about 20 feet away when Basehore began watching explicit videos on his phone at high volume and masturbated. He was arrested, and Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Birbeck set bail at $9,000 cash, which he was unable to post. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 14.

New York State-Record Largemouth Bass Caught in Cayuga Lake
On July 11, 2024, Jim Britenbaugh—a tournament angler from the Gettysburg, PA area—caught and released the new New York state-record largemouth bass. For almost 40 years, the record has been held by John Higbie’s 11-pound, 4-ounce largemouth, but during a day of tournament practice on Cayuga Lake, the 1987 record was dethroned by a largemouth bass that weighed a full pound and two ounces more.

Gettysburg, Pa. (July 23, 2024)— On July 18 and 19, 2024, Gettysburg National Military Park and Gettysburg Foundation staff received a delegation from our Sister Park, the Sekigahara Battlefield, Sekigahara, Japan. Representatives from the Gifu Prefecture government, Sekigahara Battlefield and Japanese tourism associates were in attendance. Since the 2016 World Battlefields Summit Joint Declaration, this most recent visit continued the Sister Park relationship between the Gettysburg and Sekigahara battlefields. At the same time, the Borough of Gettysburg signed a Sister City agreement with the town of Sekigahara, Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
