Rocky Point resident Alexandra “Alex” Kelly, a gifted, 20-year-old athlete, had the opportunity to compete in the 2024 Olympic Trials June 21. There, she was placed 21st in the Women’s Long Jump Qualification – Group 1. She has gained valuable knowledge watching the preparation of other top athletes on the national stage.
Riverhead school board hires executive director of elementary ed: July 22 meeting wrap-up
The Riverhead Board of Education hired a new administrator this week to oversee the school district’s elementary education services. Gretchen Cotton Rodney, who worked as the principal at the North Coleman Road Elementary School in Centereach, is taking on the new role of the executive director of elementary education for the 2024-25 school year. Cotton Rodney will be paid an annual salary of $190,000 plus benefits, according to a memorandum of understanding approved by the school board at a special meeting Monday. Cotton Rodney’s position is not part of any bargaining unit.

Stony Brook University Professor Brenda Anderson, PhD has been elected as the new University Senate President effective on July 1, 2024. The University Senate is the primary campus-wide academic governance body at Stony Brook and is made up of a senate, and standing committees that collaborate with administration to discuss issues that impact the university as a whole.
