    Urbana Park District opens nomination petitions for Park Commissioners

    URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — The Urbana Park District is now accepting nomination petitions to name its next Commissioners.

    Two Commissioners will be elected to six-year terms in the 2025 municipal elections on April 1. The Park District encouraged anyone with interest in the job to attend Park Board meetings . They should also contact Executive Director Tim Bartlett to schedule a meeting to learn more about the duties, schedules, park facilities, programs and current projects.

    Board meetings are held the second Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. at the Planning and Operations Building, 1011 East Kerr Avenue in Urbana. To schedule a meeting with Bartlett, people should call the Darius E. Phebus Administrative Office at (217)-367-1536.

    To be eligible for the job, you must be a qualified voter who lives in the Park District for at least one year prior to the election. Illinois law also requires that people cannot serve on a park board if they are in arrears due to the park district or being a convicted felon.

    Nominating petitions can be picked up at the Phebus Administrative Office at 303 West University Avenue from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. Petitions must be returned to the office by November 18, 2024.
