Two Jefferson High School graduates are teaming up for an event that brings together nutrition education and awareness of food insecurity. Susie Kundrat is a 1984 Jefferson High School graduate, this year’s Tower of Fame Award recipient, and is currently on a nation-wide book tour as she wrote “Eat Move Groove: Unlock the Simple Steps to Lifelong Nutrition, Fitness and Wellness.” Kundrat is making a stop on Saturday for a program at Beaverdale Books in Des Moines where she is going to educate people about taking the science of nutrition and how to keep it simple, practical and applicable to life, as she calls it an “invitation to wellness.”
Introducing New Guthrie Center Elementary Principal Tandem Eischeid
Guthrie Center Elementary will have a new face on their administrative team for the upcoming school year. Principal Tandem Eischeid replaces the building’s long-time principal Denise Flanery who retired last year, and is in his first position outside of a classroom. He says that he’s spent 16 years in education, with his main role being a classroom teacher, but that he’s also had some experience working on a building leadership team.

Ankeny schools to consider district-wide cell phone restrictions
ANKENY, Iowa — The Ankeny Community School District is considering cell phone restrictions for students. Superintendent Dr. Erick Pruitt says this would be a district-wide policy for Pre-K through high school. He says the main reason behind it is the distractions cell phones cause at school. Pruitt says Ankeny Community School District is looking to ban cell phone use from the start to the end of the school day. Students could be asked to keep their phones off and in their backpacks during this time.
