Trump earlier that evening had formally accepted the party's nomination as the Republican presidential nominee. Thursday was Melania Trump's first and only appearance at the convention, unlike Trump , who attended all four days.

Their seemingly awkward moment is in stark contrast to other convention couples, including Trump's own running mate and Ohio Sen. JD Vance, who could be seen hand-in-hand with wife Usha Vance throughout the week in Milwaukee.

And it was far from the passionate kiss between then-Democratic nominee Al Gore and his wife, Tipper, at the 2000 Democratic National Convention. The Gores divorced in 2010.
