New poll shows Josh Shapiro and Mark Kelly have higher favorability than Tim Walz

WASHINGTON - With Vice President Kamala Harris expected to reveal her running mate Tuesday, a new poll shows that Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly have higher favorability ratings among Americans than Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

The NPR/PBS/Marist national survey , conducted between Aug. 1 and Aug. 4, found that 31% of Americans hold a favorable view of Kelly, while 18% hold an unfavorable view. Twenty-five percent of Americans have a positive view of Shapiro while 23% have an unfavorable view.

However, only 17% of Americans have a favorable view of Walz, with 12% holding an unfavorable view. Seventy-one percent of Americans said they’ve never heard of Walz or were unsure how to rate him, compared to 52% for Kelly and 53% for Shapiro.

The three men were on Harris’ shortlist for running mate, until she narrowed down her list to Walz and Shapiro, Reuters reported.

The poll, conducted among 1,613 adults, has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.3 percentage points.

Harris will kick off a multi-state battleground campaign blitz with her new running mate Tuesday, starting in Philadelphia.
