The Big Ten , the oldest Division I Conference in America, has expanded for the first time since 2014. Four teams are joining for the upcoming 2024 season, bringing the total number of team members to 18. The four teams joining the Big Ten Conference for their inaugural season are the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), the University of Oregon, the University of Southern California (USC), and the University of Washington.
“We are excited today to officially welcome the University of Oregon, UCLA, USC and the University of Washington to the Big Ten Conference,” said Big Ten Commissioner Tony Petitti in a statement . “All four institutions feature a combination of world class academics and athletics that are a great fit for our conference, and we look forward to building long-lasting relationships with the administrators, coaches, student-athletes, alumni and fans.”
The newcomers join Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Rutgers, Maryland, Northwestern, Purdue, Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan State and Indiana to make up the 18 Big Ten teams.
