Two adults reportedly lock a crying baby in an airplane bathroom sparking online outrage

Crying babies can be a headache for many travelers, but two airline passengers in China took things to the next level earlier this month when they locked an emotional toddler in an airplane bathroom and posted a video of the incident.

CNN reported that the child was traveling with her grandparents from Guiyang to Shanghai on Juneyao Airlines on Aug. 24 and cried throughout the close to three-hour flight.

Social media posts and statements from the airline confirmed that the two passengers took the child into the bathroom to "educate" her about proper behavior with her grandmother's consent, according to CNN.

Reporting on the translations of the social media posts says the women went into the bathroom with the child and locked the door, with one telling her “we won’t let you out unless you stop crying."

In the U.S., it's been a trend in recent years for some parents to preemptively give out goodie bags to fellow passengers if they're worried about their children's volume or behavior on a flight. But most experts say that's really not necessary – it's better if travelers are just a little more understanding that kids can be emotional.

"I don’t believe that other adults on the plane should have this expectation that they’re being inconvenienced by sharing this space with a baby," Baby Can Travel blog founder Celine Brewer previously told USA TODAY.
