Utah football well and truly embarks on its stay in the Big 12 this week as it faces an opponent that it will become rather familiar with in the coming years.
The No. 11 ranked Utes (1-0) welcome the Baylor Bears to Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. ET kick-off. While both teams are now part of the Big 12, the game is a non-conference as it is the return game of a home-and-home series that started last season at Baylor.
Utah, which was projected to win the Big 12 in the conference's preseason poll, enter Saturday's game 1-0 after beating Southern Utah, 49-0, in Week 1 of the season last week. Behind quarterback Cameron Rising, who finished with 254 passing yards and five touchdowns in Week 1, the Utes moved up two spots in this week's US LBM Coaches Poll from No. 13.
Like Utah, Baylor is coming off a season-opener win against Tarleton State in Waco, Texas last weekend. Bears wide receiver Ketron Jackson Jr. led all receivers in the 45-3 win over Tarleton State with 69 receiving yards on two receptions and a touchdown.
