New England Patriots coach Jerod Mayo spoke to the media on Friday following his team’s 17-3 win over the Carolina Panthers in their preseason opener.

He indicated the offensive line is “still under construction.” That much could have been surmised by the team’s decision to only play rookie quarterback Drake Maye for one drive. After the game, Mayo admitted he didn’t want to put Maye behind the backup offensive line.

On Friday morning, Mayo said the team plans to bring in more offensive linemen for workouts.

The offensive line has been a work in progress throughout the offseason for the Patriots. They selected rookies Caedan Wallace and Layden Robinson in hopes of improving the pass protection and run-blocking up front.

Preseason is the perfect time to tinker with things because it’ll be off to the races once the regular season starts.

It will be interesting to see who the Patriots ultimately bring in to fill an obvious need on the roster.
