Fox Sports: Is Bills' Josh Allen good enough to overcome the loss of Stefon Diggs?

The Buffalo Bills still have the goal of making it all the way to the Super Bowl despite losing some of the better players that they’ve relied on in the past few seasons. One of those players is wide receiver Stefon Diggs and at this point, there are some wondering if star quarterback Josh Allen can overcome his loss.

In a recent article by Fox Sports looking at some of the biggest questions in the NFL at this point of the preseason, one of the questions asked was what Buffalo could do without having a true go-to receiver. As a matter of fact, the question was framed as whether Allen would be able to carry a team that has lost plenty of players on both sides of the ball.

Allen is still surrounded by good players like running back James Cook, left tackle Dion Dawkins, and cornerback Rasul Douglas, but the franchise has clearly taken a step back with the departures of players like Diggs and safety Jordan Poyer. However, Allen is regarded as one of the best quarterbacks in the league and as such, he will be expected to keep the Bills competitive despite the reduction in talent.

If Buffalo is going to make it back to the playoffs and potentially go on a championship-level run, they will need Allen to be at his best as the team tries to navigate this retooling period. Fox Sports’ Henry McKenna had this to say in his summary of the position that Allen is in heading into the 2024 season:

“An AFC East scout says Allen is the most terrifying QB to prepare for not named Mahomes. But the compliment is backhanded because that has been the Bills’ problem: They’ve been the best team in the AFC for years — not counting the Chiefs. For Allen and Buffalo, the next few years will likely be more difficult than the past few years. The Bills quarterback needs to keep ascending if Buffalo is to remain in Super Bowl contention.”
