The Carolina Panthers wouldn’t have the greatest of depth at the cornerback position even if they were entirely healthy entering the 2024 campaign. And unfortunately, they’re not even entirely healthy.

Projected starter Dane Jackson made an early exit from Wednesday’s session of training camp. Head coach Dave Canales began his post-practice presser by providing reporters with the latest update on the 27-year-old defensive back.

“Dane Jackson—hamstring tightened up a little bit in one-on-ones,” he said. “We’ll know more information this afternoon there.”

Carolina signed Jackson to a two-year deal worth up to $14.5 million this past spring. He’s currently the favorite to start alongside No. 1 corner Jaycee Horn, who has dealt with a bevy of injury concerns himself over his three-year NFL career.

Jackson played his previous four pro seasons with the Buffalo Bills, where he crossed paths with Panthers president of football operations and general manager Dan Morgan. He started in 28 of his 52 outings for Buffalo between 2020 and 2023.
