The Seattle Seahawks have concluded their first of two joint practices with the Tennessee Titans. For the first time since 1991, Seattle has taken the field with an opponent but not in a game scenario. This is a rather unique scenario the Seahawks franchise, and its players, are obviously not familiar with. But so far, those who participated are finding the value in it.

Seattle’s starting quarterback, Geno Smith, spoke to the media following the practice. When asked about what he is gaining from this experience, Smith was quick to answer with a positive response.

“Just the competition,” Smith exclaimed. “Being able to go against someone else, anothter team. Getting that good, fun competition out here on the field. It is always great to go against each other. You got DK and Riq Woolen who compete against each other almost every day. Then you come out here and you see the difference in cornerbacks, receivers, going up against different guys, seeing different looks, different schemes. I think overall the competition, that’s the main thing.”

Having the opportunity to face a different opponent is something this Seahawks team has clearly been craving. Last week at practice there were multiple fights among the players. Ultimately, issues were resolved without any serious injuries. Head coach Mike Macdonald explained the situation to the media and explicitly said “we’ve been out here, I don’t know, 14, 16 days — we’re tired of going up against one another, you know.”

Having these joint practices as an outlet for Seattle’s players seems to be exactly what the doctor ordered, and it has been noticed by their quarterback.
