Assessment of Russell Wilson an 'incomplete study' for Mike Tomlin

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the media after the team’s 9-3 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Saturday night. The game was Tomlin’s first opportunity to see quarterback Russell Wilson in live action and the things weren’t great.

Wilson played four series going 8-for-10 for only 47 passing yards. The Steelers went scoreless in four drives and he was sacked three times.

After the game, Tomlin somewhat defended the lack of performance from Wilson and spread the blame across the offense.

Again, it’s somewhat of an incomplete study because you just don’t get a chance to see him operate or us operate or us establish rhythm and personality when you’re not winning possession downs, and we weren’t. The first three or so series of the game, it was three-and-out, and you’re not going to get an opportunity to establish rhythm or play the way that you would like as an individual or a collective.

There’s no denying just how bad the entire Steelers offense was. But if we are being honest, Wilson is touted as a future Hall of Famer and instead of seeing him elevate his team when the rest were struggling, he just went down with the ship. Three times.
