Packers rookie linebacker Edgerrin Cooper returning to practice Tuesday

The Green Bay Packers will finally return rookie linebacker Edgerrin Cooper from a hip injury that has kept him for almost three weeks of action. According to coach Matt LaFleur, Cooper will be back and doing individual drills during Tuesday’s practice.

LaFleur also said rookie running back MarShawn Lloyd would remain out with a hamstring injury, and rookie offensive lineman Jordan Morgan might return to 11-on-11 work this week.

“Cooper will be there for (individual) today,” LaFleur said.

Cooper, the team’s first of two second-round picks, hasn’t practiced since July 31. He missed Family Night, the preseason opener in Cleveland, a joint practice in Denver and another preseason game over the last three weeks.

The Packers are currently two weeks and three days away from the season opener in Brazil. It will be difficult for Cooper — who won’t immediately return to 11-on-11 work — to catch up and be an instant contributor at linebacker, especially with veterans Isaiah McDuffie and Eric Wilson ahead of him.

It’s unclear if Cooper will be ready to go for Saturday’s preseason finale against the Baltimore Ravens. The Packers practice Tuesday before Thursday’s joint practice with the Ravens.

Cooper was the 45th overall pick in the 2024 draft. He was a first-team All-SEC and All-American after producing 17 tackles for loss and 8.0 sacks for Texas A&M.
