Former Georgia Bulldog RB Nick Chubb projected to start on reserve/PUP list

Former Georgia Bulldog running back Nick Chubb, who suffered a major knee injury last year that needed two surgeries, has been predicted to begin the season on the reserve/PUP list for the Cleveland Browns. This is based on a roster prediction from the Athletic’s Zac Jackson.

This move would require him to sit for the first four games of the season. His availability for Week 1 of the regular season was already in question, but this move would officially negate that.

Chubb suffered the injury in a Week 2 Monday Night Football contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers; a torn MCL and damaged ACL. It was the same knee that Chubb injured as a Bulldog in 2015, which involved a dislocated kneecap, a torn PCL, a torn MCL, and a torn LCL. Many were fearing that last year’s injury would be career-ending, but Chubb has been able to recover well, and Cleveland expects that he will be able to suit up in 2024.

He’s not in danger of parting ways with Cleveland after agreeing to take a pay cut in the offseason. However, with only one year left of his contract, he will need to make sure he returns to full health and maintains past form after the injury, so it seems wise for both him and the Browns to put him on the reserve/PUP list. UGA fans may have to wait until Week 5 to see arguably their best NFL running back suit up for Cleveland.
