A former Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver has found a new home in the NFL. The Cleveland Browns released Matt Landers on Aug. 19. Shortly after his release, the New England Patriots claimed the former Georgia pass catcher on waivers.

Landers played at Georgia from 2017-2020, recording 10 catches for 105 yards and a touchdown in 12 games during the 2019 season. His role decreased greatly in 2020, which prompted him to transfer to Toledo the following year.

In one season at Toledo, Landers recorded 20 catches for 514 yards and five touchdowns before spending his final year of eligibility at Arkansas. He led Arkansas in receiving that season, recording 47 catches for 901 yards and eight touchdowns.

The 6-foot-4, 200-pound receiver split time on the practice squads of the Seattle Seahawks and the Carolina Panthers in 2023. At the combine in 2023, he recorded a 4.37 40-yard dash. Landers also had a short stint in the UFL with the San Antonio Brahmas in 2024.

Now, he will try to gain some traction with the Patriots, who play their preseason finale against the Washington Commanders on Aug. 25.
