    The meaning behind Colorado’s ‘D’ and ‘L’ jersey patches for the 2024 season

    Colorado head coach Deion Sanders wears a “JC” patch on his gameday gear to honor his former Florida State equipment manager. His players on the Buffaloes also have their own patches, but these have completely different meanings.

    Last season, Sanders showed up on Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff show in Boulder and explained the mystery behind the “D” and “L” patches certain players get to wear and it’s so much more epic than we could have guessed.

    The patches represent one of two designations on the team: Leaders and Dawgs.

    Here’s how the coach explained how players earn one of the two designations:

    We’ve seen coaches employ similar tactics (Ohio State’s helmet stickers immediately come to mind), but like everything else with Deion, this just has a different flair. When you see those patches there should be no doubt about what to expect from the players wearing them.
