With the players off for the day, the New England Patriots front office was hard at work making moves ahead of Sunday’s season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals.

On Tuesday, the Patriots announced they signed offensive tackle Caleb Jones to the practice squad. In a corresponding move, the team also announced the release of defensive end Brevin Allen.

Jones signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted rookie in 2022. He was one of many roster cuts after failing to make the initial 53-man roster. The former Indiana University standout is a mammoth human being standing at 6-foot-9 and 370 pounds.

The struggles along the offensive front in New England have the team desperately looking to improve their roster depth. Vederian Lowe is expected to be the starting left tackle, but he was banged up at the end of training camp.

The Patriots have also added a slew of main roster signings, along with spending a third-round draft pick on rookie Caedan Wallace.

It’s a wide open competition along the offense line for New England, which only means opportunity for a player like Jones.
