The Wisconsin Badgers football program may need a long look in the mirror following Week 2 of the 2024 college football season.

While the unit has opened its season with a 2-0 mark, both wins arrived against subpar opponents: the South Dakota Coyotes and Western Michigan Broncos.

Wisconsin managed to vanquish Western Michigan 28-14 at home in its first appearance at Camp Randall of the 2024 season. The victory, as mentioned, was nowhere near impressive.

In fact, Western Michigan held a 14-13 edge over the Badgers early in the fourth quarter. If not for a miraculous special teams sequence, Wisconsin may have disastrously dropped the season opener.

Ideally, UW would’ve beat the Broncos in blowout fashion. Unfortunately for head coach Luke Fickell and company, that’s exactly what the No. 2 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes did in Columbus in Week 2.

By the conclusion of the first quarter, Ohio State’s offense propelled the platoon to a 21-0 lead. By the half, the game was essentially over.

OSU’s running back Quinshon Judkins went ballistic with 108 rushing yards and two ground scores. Wide receiver Jeremiah Smith reeled in five catches for 119 yards and a touchdown while quarterback Will Howard diced the Bronco defense for 292 passing yards and two total TDs.

The Buckeyes triumphed 56-0 and forced 11 Western Michigan punts on Saturday. The Badgers, meanwhile, struggled to take a lead over the crew before a packed crowd at home.

The output showcases the difference between the Big Ten’s heavyweight squads and the mediocre teams. If the Badgers wish to contend against some of the nation’s best, they may need an offensive reboot. The unit needs to find immediate consistency with Alabama heaving into Camp Randall next Saturday.
