Texas A&M is still outside of the lastest AP Top 25 rankings

Texas A&M (1-1) made some strides this weekend after defeating McNeese State 52-10 on Saturday afternoon, led by starting quarterback Conner Weigman’s efficient day in the pocket.

Earning his first win as the Aggie’s newest head coach, Mike Elko knows that plenty of work is ahead of his team, starting with a road trip to Gainsville to face a Florida team that has a big decision to make at quarterback after freshman DJ Lagway’s dazzling performance on Saturday night.

On offense, Texas A&M’s running game found every hole that the offensive line provided, rushing for 333 yards and five touchdowns in one of the better performances in quite some time. Junior backs Le’Veon Moss and Amari Daniels continued to impress.

While fans were hoping to see Weigman in the pocket for more than two quarters, five consecutive scoring drives with two passing touchdowns was enough to rest him for Florida.

Defensively, A&M’s D-line has shown flashes but needs to do a much better job stopping the run, while the pass rush has recorded only one sack in two games. Thankfully, ten games remain to get things right.

Unkrankd in the newest US LBM Coaches Poll, the Aggies are still unranked in the newest AP Top 25 Poll but did receive 68 votes, the third most behind Boise State (77) and Illinois (101).

Texas A&M will travel to Gainsville to take on the Florida Gators on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 2:30 p.m. CT. The game will air on ABC.
